On Friday, August 4, 2006 the Grand chapter of Sigma Pi Fraternity Adopted the SAM Spady Foundation as the International Philanthropy of Sigma Pi Fraternity.

The Mission of the SAM Spady Foundation is to educate all parents and students on the dangers of alcohol, specifically high-risk consumption, and the signs and symptoms of alcohol poisoning. The foundation honors the memory of Samantha Spady, a 19-year old student at Colorado State University, who died of alcohol poisoning on September 5, 2004.

Samantha affected people’s lives in a unique way. Her friends remember Sam as a fun-loving, sensitive and "amazing" girl, who was a champion for the underdog and a good friend. Samantha’s death was an unintentional tragedy. It is the hope of the SAM Spady foundation, with everyone’s support, that they can prevent a similar tragedy from happening.

On college and University campuses all across the country misuse and abuse of alcohol is a recurring problem. Recently, the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) reported that high-risk student drinking causes 1,400 deaths, 70,000 sexual assaults, and 500,000 student injuries every year on college campuses across the country.

Samantha was a dear and devoted friend to Sigma Pi. We cherish her friendship and choose to honor her memory by partnering with the SAM Spady Foundation. Together we will educate the masses, inform the individual, and protect our most valuable asset with whom we have been trusted…our undergraduate members, both present and future.
